iPod Software 1.2.6 provides improved battery management which solves a problem that may appear to shorten your iPod’s battery life.
Once again, Apple has chosen what I think is an awkward way of distribution the iPod update. They provide a link to download a disk image which when mounted presents you with an installer package "iPod126.pkg". When run this installer installs the actual iPod Software 1.2.6 Updater inside an eponymuously named folder which is inside your utilities folder. You then must run this updater to send the new firmware to your iPod. Not very intuitive, I wouldn’t expect my mom to be able to do it without a few setbacks.
