I was under the impression that a MiniDV camera would provide a video feed to iChat AV when connected to a Mac via firewire. I couldn’t have been more wrong. It turns out that iChat AV (Public Beta): Does Not Recognize DV Camera on Computers With PowerPC G3. Hence my Canon ZR60 hooked up to the 900MHz iBook did not allow me to broadcast video. On the other hand, my G4/400 while being 200MHz shy of system recommendations allowed me to visually preview what I should be able to send out had I found another available iChat AV user at the time I had everything hooked up. I guess that just provides me with another reason to justify picking up an iSight.
