Don’t buy a Compact Digital Camera with more than 6 megapixels

Worth linking to; sixmegapixels explains why having a more than six megapixels on a compact digital camera is not just a bad idea, they actually produce lower quality (as in more digital noise lower quality) photos . (Via Daring Fireball.)

I don’t know about this. I have a Canon G9 “point & shoot”. It has 12.1 Megapixels (1/1.7” sensor) with and has RAW capabilities. The image sharpness and lack of noise are remarkable. Also, it has pro features like aperture priority, shutter speed priority and other features that you’d expect on a DSLR. Have a look at http://www.dpreview.com and at http://www.kenrockwell.com for more on the topic. To see my “noisy” +6 MP images go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/14486602@N08 and take a look at the 1st 9 photos.
