I had already successfully executed this trick with my 10GB iPod and the new 1.2 update this morning. I would have written this up myself had someone not already beatten me to it.
Vindigo 2.0 for Mac OS X and Palm Desktop 4 has been released. Aparenty it’s a memory hog and is now a subscription based product. Perhaps I’ll pass.

There’s a Palm Desktop script included — perhaps this is an automated way to do an manual vcf export of all the contacts.
Palm Desktop software 4.0 for Mac is out as a carbon application (OS 9 and OS X). Hopefully the kinks I experienced with the beta have been worked out. I got hosed at least 3 times using the pre-release. Remember to always keep backups.
I didn’t notice that on Febuary 27th Macfixit.com forum member MrBone13 posted a solution to the "Palm can’t open my user file" problem that has been plauging Palm 4.0 Beta OS X users since January.
